The Gyrotourbillon 1 (also called Hybris Mechanica 2) is a luxury watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Info
The model Gyrotourbillon 1 demonstrates the horological excellence of the manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The tourbillon construction presented here as a world premiere through its spatial operation exceeds the conventional 2-dimensional functional design of previous tourbillons both cages of the tourbillon revolve around two axes and equalize in each level the impacts of gravity.
In addition, this luxury model offers the advantages of a perpetual calendar with four retrograde hands a month hand, a leap year indicator and two large date hands, each of which is responsible for the first or second half of the month. Another hand, provided with an asterisk, shows the real solar time. The case design was later credited to Magali Métrailler, who had begun at Jaeger-LeCoultre just two years before the debut and was then just 25.
Because of its two barrels the watch has the enormous power reserve of eight days. The manual winding manufacture movement JLC 177 has, believe it or not, 117 jewels and 679 components. Production is limited to 75 pieces in five years.
Jaeger-LeCoultre won the Technical Innovation and Complication Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève for the Grande Complication Gyrotourbillon I in November, 2004.
The Gyrotourbillon 1 remained available for many years, always in limited series. The initial platinum version limited to 75 examples. A final 30 examples in rose gold with an open-worked dial were produced in 2012, marking the end of the model's availability. In 2017, a special model in platinum with 6.7 carats of baguette diamonds around the bezel and aventurine marquetry dial was released at SIHH. List price for the platinum Gyrotourbillon 1 was €290,000 in 2004.
