ETA is the largest manufacturer of watch movements in Switzerland. The company has taken on most of the Swiss movement industry over the last century, including hundreds of movements.
This page contains information on the main series of calibres from ETA.
Before the emergence of the Swatch Group, ETA was the movement supplier for Eterna inside ASUAG/Ebauches SA. It is here that many common technologies were developed, including the predecessors for the modern ETA 2824/2836 and ETA 2892 movements.
ETA's modern ETA 2000 movement is a small-size evolution of their automatic ladies movements.
ETA evolved Eterna's compact 6.75 ligne (ladies) calibre Eterna 1419 into a series of compact automatics for other manufacturers in the 1950's and 1960's. These are the first ETA movements to beat at 21,600 A/h.
ETA produced this line of compact and popular movements in the 1950's and 1960's, including their successful automatic line. All are 10.5 or 11.5 lignes in diameter and operate at 18,000 A/h.
ETA's mainstream movement line from the 1960's is mostly forgotten today, though it serves as a basis for the modern, well-known ETA 2824 and ETA 2836 movements. Like that family, this group includes 11.5 and 13 ligne movements with both manual and automatic winding. This series was one of the first high-beat movements from ETA, ranging from the basic 18,000 A/h all the way up to 36,000 A/h for the ETA 2732.

This compact movement family is primarily used in ladies watches. It was introduced in 1971 and continues in production today. Movements operate at 21,600 or 28,800 A/h and measure 7.75 ligne in diameter. The 2640 series was derived from earlier Eterna calibres and was also sold by Eterna with an additional “1” preceding the number (e.g., 12660 = 2660).

The 2750/2770 family of movements was a mainstream product for ETA through the 1970's, with production beginning around 1969 and lasting until 1982. Over 6 million hand-winding and 25 million automatics from this family were made, and they are the predecessor of the modern ETA 2824 family.

This movement family is derived from the ETA 2750 and ETA 2770, which were themselves evolved from the ETA 2600 and ETA 2620 and originally the ETA 2370 and ETA 2375. Today, the most common members of this family are the ETA 2824 and ETA 2836. Note that the ETA 2892 family is technically unrelated to this, having been derived from an entirely different series of Eterna movements.
The 2800 series movements are extremely similar. Across all of the variants, 27 common parts were used. Nearly all of the parts were common to each of the three complications and sizes, and more than half were shared within each speed.
This entire series uses just six mainplates, each of the following in both 11.5 ligne and 13 ligne sizes
With three speeds available, there were also three balance/escape/fourth wheel assemblies. Those with a balance stop also had unique parts.
The family shared four mainsprings, 2 for the manual versions and 2 for the automatics.

Other variants
The 2840 series was closely related to the 2800 series but was cost-reduced for use in Swatch-branded automatic watches. The calibres correspond with similar-numbered 2800 movements. Only the ETA 2846 (and perhaps the ETA 2842) were made available to other manufacturers.
These differ from the 2800 series in layout but use many similar parts. They were intended as cost-reduced versions like the 2840 series, but retain dial feet and other features for use in serviceable watches.
The 289x movements are entirely different from the 2824/2836 line, being derived from the ultra-thin Eterna 1466. There have been three generations of this movement: The original 2890 and 2892 of the 1970's, the updated 2892-2 of the 1980's, and the modern 2892A2, introduced in 1999. Due to its thin profile and proven reliability, many modular movements use this calibre as a base. Notable among these is the ETA 2894-2 chronograph.
ETA's main integrated chronograph family is derived from the Valjoux 7750 line.
