The French word for “flange”, a rehaut fills the space around the edges between the face and crystal of a watch. Not all watches feature a rehaut, but it is useful for creating a “clean” look around the edge of the dial. In some watches, notably modern Rolex models, the rehaut is inscribed with a decoration or lettering. Some also use the rehaut as a location for a chapter ring or other scale.

Because some watches feature an internal bezel, the rehaut is sometimes called a bezel or vice versa, but this is incorrect.
