Nappey

Nappey was a French watch brand active between 1946 and the late 1960s.

History

Nappey was founded in Besançon, France in 1946 by Jules Nappey. The company was successful at first, even sponsoring the Tour de France between 1958 and 1960. The company was a founding member of Heuroplan, along with famous Swiss names like Movado and Juvenia.

At the Salon de Besançon in 1960, Nappey showed the novel Jumelles Times (“Twin Time”) watch, which packed two movements side-by-side in the same case. This was perhaps the first double movement watch and was pitched as an aid for jet-setting travelers.

Nappey fell on hard times after this and was out of business in the 1970s. An attempt was made to revive the brand as Societe Nouvelle des Montres Nappey but this also failed.
