Richard Lange (1845-1932) was the first son of Ferdinand Adolph Lange.
He is considered as the scientist in the Lange dynasty, for he was responsible for 27 patents and utility models. His greatest invention was the addition of the element Beryllium as an alloying element of balance wheel hairsprings. Not only was their elasticity and strength increased, but also the sensitivity to temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields was significantly reduced by this addition.
As a tribute to Richard Lange, the model A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange was developed and launched by A. Lange & Söhne.
