• Audemars Piguet already builds the world's first wristwatch with minute repeater and is thus far ahead of time, because the type of the wristwatch will win through only about 20 years later.
• The Dane Bahne Bonniksen, a great admirer of Abraham-Louis Breguet, applies his invention of the carousel in London for a patent. This approach is a robust alternative to the tourbillon construction of Breguet, which also aims for the compensation of the influence of gravity.
  Blancpain realizes the carousel for the first time in 2008 in its luxury wristwatch model Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute.
• The company Breitling, founded by Léon Breitling in 1884 in Saint-Imier, relocates to La Chaux-de-Fonds in a newly built watch plant.
• The brothers Christian and George Thiel start the production of pocket watches in Ruhla (Germany) and thus lay the foundation of the city tradition as a city of watches.
