• Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet present the hitherto world's smallest watch movement with minute repeater.
• The manufacture Stolz Frères SA is founded in Le Locle by the brothers Gustav and Albert Stolz. From it arises in the following years the well-known chronographs brand Angelus.
• The sons of Edouard Heuer, Charles-Auguste and Jules-Edouard Heuer, take over the management of the company Heuer.
• In January 1891, three years before his death, Jean-Adrien Philippe hands the management of Patek Philippe over to his son Joseph-Emile.
