• Jean-Antoine Lépine invents the Lépine caliber named after him.
• The watchmaker Ferdinand Berthoud is awarded the title of “Clockmaker and Mechanic by appointment to the French King and Navy”. In 2013 the Chopard Group announces the watch brand La Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud in honor of Berthoud.
