**Mainspring** (also Barrel spring, spring)

The Mainspring delivers the power which is needed by the [[balance spring]] to maintain its oscillations. The spring is usually an alloy of iron, nickel and chromium with various additives. It is fixed at the [[barrel]] and the [[spring shaft]].
