====== Genta, Gérald Charles ====== **Gérald Charles Genta** is a Swiss watch designer best known for the [[Audemars Piguet Royal Oak]] and the [[eponymous]] [[Gérald Genta]] brand. ===== Overview ===== Gérald Charles Genta was born in [[Geneva]] on May 1st [[1931]]. He completed a training as jewelry designer and in [[1951]] finished it with the Swiss Federal Diploma. In [[1972]] Gérald Genta wrote watch history with the [[stainless steel]] watch [[Audemars Piguet Royal Oak|Royal Oak]], developed for [[Audemars Piguet]]. In [[1976]] [[Patek Philippe]] presented the luxury sports watch [[Patek Philippe Nautilus|Nautilus]], created by Gérald Genta. In [[1994]] with the "Grande Sonnerie" he designed the world's most complicated [[wristwatch]] (price about one million dollars). Already in [[1969]] he founded his own watch manufacturing [[Gérald Genta]]. He saw himself as a craftsman and artist, and because he wanted to dedicate himself to painting, he sold his brand [[1998]] to [[The Hour Glass]] of Singapore. Shortly afterwards it was resold to the [[Bulgari]] group.
